Orlando City is reportedly in active negotiations to secure the signing of Antoine Griezmann, the highly regarded attacking midfielder from Atletico Madrid, according to The Athletic. The French international, who has expressed a long-standing desire to play in Major League Soccer, could be joining the Florida club ahead of the closure of the primary transfer window on March 26. Griezmann, currently 34 years old, has been performing well for Atletico, contributing six goals in La Liga this season.

The discussions for Griezmann's transfer have been ongoing for some time, with Orlando City making significant efforts to finalize a deal. Ricardo Pereira, the club's Sporting Director, has reportedly made multiple trips to Spain to meet with Atletico Madrid officials. Despite Griezmann's age, he remains an integral part of Diego Simeone's squad, playing a crucial role in Atletico’s ambitions to qualify for the Copa del Rey final. Orlando City is keen on securing Griezmann's services before the transfer window ends, but the deal is far from a certainty.

Griezmann has been open about his admiration for American culture and his desire to play in MLS. Over the years, the French star has been seen attending various sporting events in the United States, and he has spoken publicly about his future goals. In an interview with AS at the end of 2025, Griezmann said, "Everyone knows that MLS is my dream and my goal." Despite reported interest from Inter Miami, who were also looking to bring him to MLS, negotiations were not successful due to their already full roster of designated players.

Known for his impressive achievements with both club and country, Griezmann’s career is one of the most decorated in modern football. He was pivotal in France’s 2018 World Cup victory, contributing four goals and two assists in seven matches. The club is reportedly not willing to let Griezmann go until the European summer transfer window opens on June 15. This timing misalignment means Orlando City would not be able to complete the signing until July 13, potentially delaying the deal until later in the year.
