England’s national team has carefully selected Kansas City as their base for the upcoming World Cup. While the Three Lions won’t play any of their group matches in the city, the central location makes it an ideal hub for their training sessions and logistical needs. The team’s first match in the competition will be against Croatia in Dallas on June 17, followed by games against Ghana in Boston and Panama in New York later in the month.

During their time in Kansas City, England will train at the Swope Soccer Village, a state-of-the-art facility that has been used by various national and club teams. Argentina, also based in Kansas City, will utilize the main Sporting Kansas City facilities. The English team will also take part in two pre-tournament friendlies in Florida, playing against New Zealand and Costa Rica in early June.

Thomas Tuchel’s Ambitions to End England’s Trophy Drought

After 60 years without a major international trophy, England’s manager, Thomas Tuchel, is eager to lead the team to success in the 2026 World Cup. In December, he expressed his determination to help the squad perform at the highest level.

"We want to make something special happen," Tuchel stated, acknowledging the uncertainty of winning but reinforcing his belief that team spirit and effort can lead to success. His approach involves focusing on the group-stage matches, where England faces tough competition from Croatia, Ghana, and Panama. Tuchel emphasized the importance of respecting every opponent and being prepared for any challenge.

Additionally, Tuchel is planning for the harsh conditions in America, where temperatures can soar. He is already considering tactical changes, including keeping substitutes in the dressing room to avoid the heat before they come on the pitch. "It is always better if they can be with us," he explained, recognizing the importance of the team’s cohesion both on and off the field.

Looking ahead, England is taking their group-stage opponents seriously. In addition to Croatia, a tough opponent ranked high in world football, Ghana and Panama will also present challenges. Tuchel stressed that no team should be underestimated, as every nation has its strengths and surprises in World Cup tournaments.

Before the main event, England will play two friendly matches in March, against Uruguay and Japan, both scheduled at Wembley. These games will serve as final preparations as the team aims to get into top form ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
