England to Establish Base in Kansas City for 2026 World Cup

FIFA World Cup March 23 , 2026 09:58:02 AM

As the countdown to the 2026 World Cup begins, England has identified their potential training base. With less than six months until the tournament kicks off in North America, preparations are now underway. The Three Lions have expressed a desire to utilize Swope Soccer Village, the training facility of MLS team Sporting Kansas City, as their training ground this summer.

England’s Challenging World Cup Group

Having qualified seamlessly for the 2026 World Cup, England finds themselves in Group L alongside Ghana, Panama, and Croatia. Their first match will be against Croatia, a team that handed them defeat in the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup. Coach Thomas Tuchel is well aware of the challenges posed by each group member.

He remarked, "Facing Croatia and Ghana — both seasoned World Cup competitors — alongside Panama will be no easy feat. I may not know much about Panama at this point, but by the tournament's start, we will be well-informed. Every group is tough, and our primary goal is to secure our position and win the group. We cannot underestimate any opponent; Croatia stands out as a significant competitor, being the highest-ranked team in Pot 2. Additionally, Ghana possesses immense talent and a rich World Cup history, while Panama will surely embrace their underdog status. All teams deserve our utmost respect, and we intend to show that."

New Challenges for Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel has built a reputation as one of the world’s elite managers, with successful stints at Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, and Chelsea, where he clinched the Champions League title in 2021. Despite his extensive experience, leading England in the World Cup presents a unique challenge for him.

Reflecting on his previous experiences, Tuchel stated, "My background has primarily been in the Champions League, where the emphasis is on respecting every opponent and focusing on winning the group. Our current group appears challenging, but we remain confident. Knowing our opponents provides clarity, and starting later in the tournament allows us some preparation time. However, a condensed schedule awaits, making it critical to focus solely on advancing from the group stage. With four ambitious teams, it’s essential to bring our best effort. I’m eager for the tournament to commence; the anticipation is palpable, and I wish we could start next week."

England Eyes Kansas as Training Headquarters

Reports from BBC Sport indicate that England is likely to establish their base at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City for the World Cup. While FIFA is expected to finalize the training locations for each nation by early February, the Football Association has already put in a request to use this modern facility as their primary training hub. England's matches against Croatia, Ghana, and Panama are scheduled to be held in Arlington (Texas), Foxborough (near Boston), and East Rutherford (New Jersey), respectively. Following these initial games, the team will return to Kansas. It remains uncertain if this £15 million facility will serve as their headquarters should they advance into the knockout stages.

All three nations will be vying to lift the coveted trophy this summer, making these warm-up games crucial for fine-tuning the squad ahead of the tournament.
