Bayern Munich have provided a fresh update on Harry Kane’s contract status, with a concerning revelation coming from sporting director Max Eberl. He initially raised optimism among supporters at the Allianz Arena by stating that “talks” were taking place. It has now emerged, however, that the prolific England striker has not yet been directly involved in those negotiations.
Exit clause: Kane could be signed for £57m in 2026
There is no immediate urgency for Bayern to finalize a new agreement for the 32-year-old striker, as his current contract runs until the summer of 2027. That deal does, however, contain release clauses that become active during each transfer window.
Reports suggest that a bid of around $78 million would be sufficient to tempt Kane away from Bavaria in 2026. Many clubs worldwide would see that figure as strong value for a forward who continues to perform at the very highest level.
Update on discussions regarding Kane's contract
After leaving Tottenham in 2023 as their record goalscorer, Kane has netted 123 goals in 129 appearances for Bayern, collecting two Bundesliga Golden Boots and helping secure a league title.
While his long-awaited trophy drought has ended in Munich, speculation remains over whether future ambitions could be pursued elsewhere. Bayern are keen to keep such an influential figure within their squad.
Contract talks were acknowledged in January, but Eberl clarified the situation by saying: “I mentioned that we were in contact, but negotiations have not yet begun. We remain in close communication with Harry, and the next steps will come soon.”
Kane open to contract extension talks
Kane has indicated that he would be willing to consider extending his stay at Bayern, with his family now settled in Germany after leaving their long-term base in north London.
Speaking about his future towards the end of 2025, Kane said: “This move has been one of the best decisions of my career. Playing in a new league with Bayern Munich, experiencing European nights and the atmosphere of German football, has been a big step forward and has helped me grow as a player.
“I’m very open to staying longer. With how we’re performing right now, I believe we’re among the top teams in Europe. I don’t look at another club and think, ‘That’s where I want to go.’ I’m really happy here. I still have 18 months left on my contract, and I’m sure discussions will happen in the future.”

Potential moves elsewhere continue to be discussed. Former Tottenham midfielder Gus Poyet told GOAL, amid links with Barcelona and Real Madrid: “If he wants something new for his family, I would choose Barcelona — especially if [Robert] Lewandowski leaves. It would be completely different from what he has experienced before.
“Barcelona’s current style of play would suit him perfectly. With a striker like Kane, he would score so many goals. Michael Owen criticised him for leaving England, but perhaps Kane has considered returning to the Premier League. His decision will be very personal, and his family will play a huge role next year.”
A comeback to English football appears unlikely, as breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record is no longer Kane’s main focus. Winning trophies now ranks higher than personal milestones.
However, interest from the Saudi Pro League could become a serious factor, with financially attractive offers expected from clubs in the Middle East. Teams in the region are reportedly preparing recruitment plans for the next transfer window, especially as uncertainty grows around Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Al-Nassr.
