This includes $300,000 for improper conduct by supporters who clashed with police, another $300,000 for the conduct of players and staff, and an additional $15,000 fine for five players receiving cautions during the match. Key players Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye and Ismaïla Sarr were also suspended for two CAF games for their behavior towards the match officials.
It is important to note that these bans apply only to CAF competitions and do not affect World Cup eligibility, which is governed by FIFA.
Morocco Also Penalized
While Senegal bore the brunt of the sanctions, Morocco was not spared. Captain Achraf Hakimi received a two-game CAF suspension, with one game suspended for a year, due to unsporting behavior during the final. Teammate Ismael Saibari was banned for three official CAF matches and fined $100,000.
The Moroccan Football Federation was fined a total of $315,000. Penalties were issued for player and staff behavior, fan interference using lasers, and even misconduct from ball boys, who were seen trying to remove the Senegalese goalkeeper’s hand towel during play.
