A Storied Career with LAFC
During his six seasons with the Black & Gold, Vela established himself as one of the most decorated and influential players in MLS history. He achieved legendary status, including being named MLS MVP and setting a league record by scoring 34 goals in a single season—a campaign widely regarded as one of the greatest individual seasons in the competition’s history. His impact extended beyond statistics, helping define LAFC’s identity, playing style, and connection to the city.
Leadership Beyond the Field
LAFC co-president John Thorrington highlighted Vela’s lasting influence on the club: “Carlos's impact on LAFC goes far beyond goals and trophies. Simply put, this club would not be what it is today without him. He helped shape our identity, our style of play, and our connection with the city from the beginning.” Vela will be officially presented as part of the ownership group during a press conference on March 14th at 8:00 PM Central Mexico time, held at BMO Stadium.
