Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is playing a hands-on role in attempts to bring Caleb Yirenkyi to Old Trafford, sources have told TEAMtalk, while the club’s co-owners INEOS are also reportedly lining up a move for Rocco Reitz.
We have consistently reported that Man Utd are targeting elite midfield reinforcements in the summer of 2026. Sources informed our transfer insider, Dean Jones, that the club are prepared to invest around £200million in new signings if interim head coach Michael Carrick can steer them to a top-four Premier League finish this season.
Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson all feature on United’s shortlist, but the club are not restricting their search to players currently in the Premier League.
Jason Wilcox targets Caleb Yirenkyi for Man Utd
Our transfer insider Graeme Bailey has revealed that Man Utd are among several clubs tracking Caleb Yirenkyi.
Arsenal and Chelsea are also understood to be monitoring the FC Nordsjaelland midfielder.
Sources say Wilcox is directly involved in discussions regarding a potential move for the Ghana international.
Wilcox has instructed United’s scouting department to follow Yirenkyi closely, with the club having already made initial enquiries about his situation.
We understand that Nordsjaelland would be willing to sell Yirenkyi for around €25m (£22m, $30m) in the summer of 2026.
Man Utd prepare Rocco Reitz ‘offer’
Spanish reports have also claimed that Man Utd are interested in securing Borussia Monchengladbach defensive midfielder Rocco Reitz in the 2026 summer window.
Fichajes — a source known for speculation and whose claims should be treated cautiously — has stated that United are “ready to submit an offer” worth €40m (£34.8m, $47.6m) for Reitz.
The outlet described Reitz as “the revelation who is shaking up the Bundesliga.”

Man Utd are said to be prepared to move from early enquiries to a concrete bid for Reitz, who is also attracting attention from Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig.
Sandro Tonali set to reject Man Utd
According to GiveMeSport, Sandro Tonali is prepared to turn down a move to Man Utd in the summer of 2026.
Speculation has suggested that United are considering a bid for the Newcastle United midfielder next year.
However, sources indicate that Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have already made contact with Tonali’s representatives.
Our transfer insider Graeme Bailey has reported that Tonali’s preference would be a return to Italy, with Inter Milan and Juventus both eager to sign him.
GiveMeSport has now supported this stance, with journalist Ben Jacobs stating that Tonali is “keen” on moving back to Italy should he leave Newcastle at the end of the season.
The report adds that Tonali is “ready to reject” interest from Man Utd, Arsenal and Manchester City in order to return to Serie A.
