John McGlynn has dismissed suggestions that Calvin Miller was close to securing a deadline-day move back to his former club Celtic.
The Falkirk boss confirmed after Sunday’s 2-0 Scottish Cup victory over Stenhousemuir that there had been “no contact” between the two Scottish Premiership clubs.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, ex-Celtic defender Charlie Mulgrew claimed that Miller was on the verge of rejoining Martin O’Neill’s side.
“I’m aware that Celtic were trying to sign Calvin Miller,” Mulgrew said. “He believed the deal was happening. His agent received a call two days before the deadline saying everything was in place and that Celtic wanted him, and he was thrilled at the prospect of going back.
“At 8.30pm on deadline night, it was supposed to be completed. Obviously Celtic were juggling a few deals like clubs usually do.
“I don’t know exactly where he ranked in their plans, whether he was first or second choice. He thought he was getting his dream move back to Celtic, but it never materialised. He was told at 8.30pm that the transfer was off.”
However, an angry McGlynn rejected that account, branding it “a load of nonsense”. Miller, who has 18 months remaining on his Falkirk contract, has been in strong form recently.
“There has never been an agent in my career who has completed a deal,” the Bairns manager said. “An agent cannot finalise a transfer on their own.
“There was absolutely no communication between Celtic and Falkirk Football Club — none at all. It’s complete nonsense.
“Celtic have never spoken to anyone at Falkirk. He’s not the first player and he won’t be the last to have stories like this used to unsettle him.”
