The Athletic’s Real Madrid correspondent Mario Cortegana released a report reviewing the club’s activity during the winter transfer window — which saw no signings — and included several points of interest for Liverpool supporters.

In the section focusing on Madrid’s possible business in the summer, it is noted that while Carlo Ancelotti was still in charge at Real Madrid, he had requested the signing of Alexis Mac Allister. Although no formal bid was submitted, the club reportedly received encouraging signals from the player’s representatives. With Mac Allister’s contract running until the summer of 2028, a move later this year is considered a realistic possibility.

Two other players linked with Liverpool were also referenced: Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton and AZ Alkmaar’s Kees Smit. Both had been associated with potential moves to Madrid last summer, but Smit is currently viewed as the more likely option. AZ are said to be demanding €60 million and have appointed Portuguese super agent Jorge Mendes to handle negotiations on their behalf.
