Newcastle Jets have continued their run of contract renewals by securing a new multi-year deal for rising talent Xavier Bertoncello.
The 20-year-old began his football journey with the New Lambton Eagles before joining the Newcastle Jets Academy at just nine years of age.
The promising attacker made his senior debut for the club during this year’s Australia Cup, starting against Adelaide United and later scoring his first senior goal in the Round of 16 versus Cooks Hill FC. He followed that up with another strike in the semi-final against Avondale FC.

Bertoncello went on to make his A-League debut in Round One of the 2025/26 season against the Central Coast Mariners, coming off the bench in the second half.
He netted his first A-League goal for the club in Round Five against Perth Glory at McDonald Jones Stadium. So far this season, Bertoncello has scored five goals in the 2025/26 campaign.
Bertoncello expressed his excitement about continuing with his childhood club.
“This is a very special moment for me. Playing for this club has always been a dream, and to be able to continue that journey means so much personally.
“I’m extremely grateful for the confidence that Mark and the coaching staff have shown in me. They’ve trusted me, and I want to repay that belief every time I step onto the pitch.”
Newcastle Jets Head Coach Mark Milligan said:
“Xavier has worked tirelessly for his chance and has never backed away from the responsibility that comes with it.
“He has huge potential to keep developing his game, and we’re excited to support him as he continues to grow into the player we know he can become.”
