Both Everton and West Ham are believed to be monitoring the situation of a player at Manchester United ahead of the summer window.

United are currently in a strong position in the race for Champions League qualification. They have recorded five wins from their last six matches and remain unbeaten since Michael Carrick took charge on an interim basis.

Carrick’s team edged Everton 1-0 on Monday night to stay fourth in the Premier League standings and will aim to maintain that momentum when they face Crystal Palace this weekend.

A number of players have thrived under Carrick’s leadership, including defender Harry Maguire, who has attracted interest from both Everton and West Ham.

Man United plan to extend Maguire’s contract

Since Carrick’s arrival, Maguire has been a consistent presence in the United starting XI, offering a dependable option at centre-back along with valuable experience from more than 280 Premier League appearances.

Maguire’s current deal runs out at the end of the season, which would bring to a close seven years at Old Trafford following his £80m move from Leicester City in 2019. The 32-year-old is said to be eager to remain at United, though the club would like him to accept reduced wages as part of a new agreement.

According to TeamTalk, negotiations between United and Maguire are progressing positively, with both parties keen to finalise an extension that would keep him at the club for at least another year.

Everton and West Ham have both been linked with a potential move should Maguire become available on a free transfer. His leadership and reliability would be valuable assets for either side, potentially helping them climb the table and, in Everton’s case, push closer toward European qualification.

Deeney hails “dependable” Maguire

Maguire once again delivered a strong performance in United’s 1-0 victory over Everton, displaying composure and authority in defence alongside his centre-back partner Leny Yoro.

Former Watford striker Troy Deeney praised Maguire after naming him in his Premier League Team of the Week for BBC Sport, describing the United defender as “Mr dependable.”

Deeney wrote: “Mr Dependable. I was close to picking Luke Shaw, but Harry just edged it. Manchester United are on a great run under Michael Carrick and look far more solid, and Maguire being fit and available has played a big part in that.

“He was excellent for Ruben Amorim and now he’s performing again. Not long ago they were trying to move him on, and now he’s the Guvnor.”

This season, Maguire has made 16 appearances across all competitions, contributing one assist and scoring two goals, including a dramatic late winner against Liverpool earlier in the campaign.

In other news, United are also considering a summer move for a Nottingham Forest player as a potential replacement for Casemiro – and it is not Elliot Anderson.
